I have seen family and friends affected by mental health. Thankfully most of them are fully supported and have had someone hold space for them when they needed it most. Sadly I know that is not the case for many people affected by mental health issues. We picked the Together candle by Northern Lights for several reasons. It is a soy wax candle where $2 of every purchase is donated to preventing suicide and promoting community wellness.
Kevin, our 21-year-old son, gave me a bracelet by 4ocean several years ago. Kevin is an avid outdoors fella who when he isn’t out fishing, he’s hiking. The effects that plastic and waste have had on our environment is a big topic for him. He believes deeply in the work 4ocean is doing, so we are including them in our box! Each product purchased funds the removal of at least one pound of trash in rivers and oceans worldwide.
I have always said working in my garden is my therapy. I love digging in the dirt and gathering food for my family. I compost everything I can in our house, use small-batch family farm seeds and organic soil. It hurts my heart that the neighbors on either side of my house have their yard chemically treated every month all year long. I have watched the bee population in my garden dwindle over the last 10 years. I found Savannah Honey and love that they use a portion of their proceeds to build beehives in classrooms to educate children on the importance of bees and preserving them. Not to mention their honey is yummy!
Because I believe mental health and our environment will only change with education, we are also including journals by Denik in the Be The Change Box. Denik supports artists who help curate assortments, and with the support of retail partners, they donate a portion of the proceeds toward building schools in third-world countries.
We believe that through supporting each other and education we can build community and create a better world.
